In Memory of Ike

Dear Ikey Man,
On March 11, 2007, we were called to take you from the Hell you knew before in a Kansas puppymill. All the way home, we had to make a decision between you and your brother on who we would be fostering. When the moment came, we knew with one deep, soulful look into your eyes that you needed to come home with us. The fear and neglect that you had experienced at only 8 months of age was more than any little boy should have to endure. That first night your foster dad slept beside your crate until the wee hours in the morning, when he quietly crept to bed. We were awakened by your howling. Knowing that you were frightened, your foster dad gave you the t- shirt that he had been wearing and you soon drifted off to sleep, comforted by his smell. Over the next few months you grew into the puppy that you had not been able to show. You learned to walk on a leash and to trust that we would not hurt you. You spent so much time in a crate in your old life that you broke out of every one that we put you in, just to be close to the ones that you loved. We bonded in a way that you were not a dog, but a child to us, a bond that would last a lifetime. On Tuesday when we found out that you had passed we were filled with overwhelming pain. You will live with us in our hearts until the day we can go for a walk on those golden streets in Heaven. We love you Ike.
Sincerely,
Foster Mom Connie and Foster Dad Eric
Life without Ike is just not the same. There is such a hole in our family. We all feel it. Human and canine, we are all greatly missing our little
buddy. He was such a dear, sweet soul. I can barely stand evenings;
Ike spent each evening in my lap, snoring away. There isn't a moment
that goes by that we don't think of him. He is greatly loved and
sorely missed.
