UPDATE 11/19/08
Here's an update from Raisin's foster mom about Raisin's health and progress:
Raisin is blossoming into a wonderful little dog. Her strict crate rest and meds seemed to have taken care of her back issues. She is back to her bouncy, playful self...PAIN FREE! She has learned new tricks, she knows how to dance pretty, and speaks on command. We are working on "lay down" & "roll over". We have found her new favorite toy is a basketball, she spends hours rolling it about the house...she won't chase a tennis ball, and she has popped every other ball we had, so the basketball works best! Now that the weather has cooled off, she enjoys going on longer walks, loves to be my boyfriend's travel companion and loves to meet new people. She loves to be with the "man" in the house, she seems to be drawn towards men (she is her foster dad's shadow!), which makes sense as she was happily a man's dog in her former home. She has spent more time around little kids, and is doing much better, but sometimes she gets a little rowdy and knocks them over (only to lick their faces.) She has gotten better about barking and carrying on when seeing cows, horses, etc...they still catch her attention, but she keeps quiet while we pass.
Little chocolate covered Raisinette is available for adoption! Raisin was an owner surrender who much preferred country life over being a city slicker. She didn't care for the leash walks, kennels and an itsy-bitsy backyard. She especially didn't appreciate strangers entering her yard and she displayed signs of dog aggression towards her canine siblings while voicing her opinion about her change of circumstance.
Raisin is a happy, healthy, wrinkly girl, viewing the world from her one eye and looking for the perfect forever family to enter her world. Her recent ophthalmology appointment confirmed she is 100% recovered, and is peeking around hoping to catch a glimpse at her future life. Raisinette requires a home with older, dog-savvy children who can run and play and toss and tumble. The younger ones make her nervous and anxious when they whimper, so no toddlers for this girl. We are also requesting Raisin be placed in a home as the only canine kid; she will not tolerate other pets of any species. Please do not file an application if you currently have a cat or dog in residence. This little sweet treat requires and deserves the pampered life of being your only canine. Our little prize has a dominant personality and will not tolerate any backtalk from any size dog. Being a bully breed, she will not back down from another dog and/or dog fight. This gal has a pleasing, social personality and her favorite time in the world is spent with her family. She will gladly ride with you for any distance without complaint, and play quietly with her own toys. She will insist on a few weekly walks between bursts of energy in her secured yard.
Raisin has excellent house manners, including housebreaking, and has earned the privilege of lounging outside of her crate. She is a quick study, and though she hasn't had formal training, she responds to her name and a few basic commands. She displays no issues of aggression towards her humans over toys or food and makes a delightful roommate.
If you love taking naps and car rides, and have a large, fenced, secure yard, we have the Frenchie for you! Raisin is adaptable to most families and would adapt to most environments other than an apartment. This lady needs to feel the grass under her paws and sun herself in the back yard, weather permitting. Her only request is a family who would share their big comfy bed and maybe some blankies. She would love a stay at home person, what Frenchie wouldn't? If the family is employed full time, a noontime walk would be recommended along with the correct amount of exercise. Raisin would even don her newest harness and leash and join the workforce if she were invited. Her good manners will make her a welcome office mascot. Raisin's foster family has formed a very special bond with their first foster and have completely enjoyed her presence in their home. Here are some heartfelt thoughts from them about Raisin:
"Our little Raisin is a sweet little girl who loves to please her people. As our first foster, she will always have a spot in our hearts. We have been through a lot together (losing her eye) , have bonded through that experience and have recovered. She will be missed by the whole family, and it will be a happy, tear-filled day when she goes to her forever home. We both want only the best for her, as we know that is what she deserves. We have tried not to get ' too' attached, but in her foster daddy's words, " She is my little buddy, napping partner and traveling pal." I say, " She will steal anybody's heart when she climbs into your lap, snorting n' kissing looking for that anticipated belly rub."
If you think your family is fit to love, spoil, AND have room in YOUR bed for this little Raisin to sleep, please apply for her today. Please plan on purchasing a large, comfy box spring and mattress after traveling to Wisconsin for your Raisin, as this little lady will not be shipped.
